In nature, destructive free radicals and peroxides are normally eliminated by organisms at the cellular level by enzymes such as catalase, peroxidase, or Superoxide dismutase.
NAB Fennel Extract, is an aqueous extract that contains standardised levels of peroxidase enzymes that convert harmful peroxides to innocuous substances such as water and oxygen. Topical application of NAB Fennel Seed Extract can reduce oxidative skin damage such as U.V. induced erythema.
In hair care however, oxidative stress is also caused by the direct application of hydrogen peroxide during colouring, bleaching, and perming processes. As a consequence, hair loses its structural integrity due to the irreversible formation of cysteic acid, resulting in weak, brittle hair that is dull and difficult to manage. Residual peroxides in the hair can also cause unwanted colour lift.
Hair swatch studies have clearly demonstrated that post treatment of hair with NAB Fennel Seed Extract significantly reduces the formation of cysteic acid in hair treated with hydrogen peroxide when compared to control swatches.
